It is quadruple silverplate, and I did not shine it up for fear of harming it since it is very old. I do not know the exact age of this server, because I could not find the number of the piece, 2482, in any of my research. However, it is definitely an antique, probably from the early 1900's or late 1800's. It comes in three pieces as you can see in the second photo. The lid is in excellent condition, no dents, but it does have the number 500 scratched into it on the inside at the very center. I find that strange, but maybe it was the artisan's number or something. The ring is also in very good condition, with just a couple of very small areas where the silver has come off. The bowl portion of this piece is in very good condition, with a couple of very small places where the silver has come off, hardly noticeable if you were going to use this on your dinner table. The only flaw it has is that someone must have used a pointed knife or something that left small indentations on the inside. These do not go through to the outside. They sort of look like areas where the silver bubbled up, if that is possible. It is visible in the second photo. It measures 8-3/4" in diameter, 4-1/2" in height, and the handle adds another 1-1/2". For its age, this piece is in excellent condition, and not very common. I could not find any of these pieces in the research that I did for this auction. This will make a striking addition to your dinner table or to your silver/antique collection. All orders totaling $20 or more must be insured, no exceptions.
