Druid Prayer Beads Wearable Prayer Beads   This beautiful strand is 27 inches long, and is composed of one Dragon Eye Seed as the Spirit Bead, brass tone dividing beads, and golden glass spacer beads. Ár nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship (ADF) is an international fellowship devoted to creating a public tradition of Neopagan Druidry. Comes with drawstring pouch.   Prayer Beads, in their many forms have been used for centuries by many different cultures. Now is the time for the Pagan movement to reclaim this ancient tool for themselves. It is believed that the Hindu and Buddhist were the first to count prayers on a cord of knots or strands beads.  The followers of Jesus used a knotted cord or a bag of stones for counting prayers. St. Dominic later adapted this into the modern Christian rosary. The Hindu word for prayer beads is in Sanskrit, “Mala”, means garden. This correlates to the use of the word “Rosary”, which is derived from Rosarium and means rose garden, and is the word used for a garland of rose beads. These meanings make one consider the use of a garden for the purpose of meditation or prayer. The word “bead” is derived from Anglo-saxon bidden (to pray) and bede (prayer).  A strand of beads is used primarily for the counting of repetitious prayers. Beads relieve the mind of needing to count and thus allow the repetitions to create an altered or magical state of consciousness.   Prayer beads are good way to bring a spiritual practice into your daily life. One of the hardest tasks people encounter in becoming more spiritual is in having a focused daily practice. Using the beads in your morning meditation helps in many ways. It gives structure and also times the session (a great side effect for those with limited time.) For a beginning meditator, one can focus on the inhale/exhale of their breath with each bead and this will still the mind and bring a sense of centeredness, taking approximately 10 minutes. If one wants to extend the meditation you go around the circle of beads again and have used about 20 minutes. Thus you can portion out your available time.   Prayer beads are perfect for carrying with you on a daily basis. Put them in your purse, brief case, in the car, etc. Use them at any time for general stress relief. Perfect for calming you during a traffic jam. A circle of beads can become a mobile “sacred space.” They can also be used for casting circle and magical spells. I am working on some patterns to be used for these purposes.
