This Art Deco "Air King" vintage radio is considered by many to be the most sought-after and collectible vintage radio ever manufactured. Exhibited in many museums throughout the world, this is the classic ivory "Skyscraper" model, circa 1933 with the ultra-deco clock insert. Quite a complicated and imposing design, the cabinet was molded by a machine that was sixty feet tall and had to achieve 10,000 pounds per square inch of actual pressure! (In 1933, this was a very ambitious endeavor in the world of radio cabinet manufacture.) This truly unique model was created by Harold Van Doren during the Great Depression and paved the way for plastic molding and radio design in future years to come. Truly the icon of all notable radios, this example is most certainly for the discerning collector. Other than minor chipping on the shoulders, this is a wonderfully preserved, all original example.
