Description
Current Lot AWA Radiolette Fisk Skyscraper Catalin Radio Amalgamated Wireless Australia (AWA) produced a number of Radiolette models over the years in a variety of sizes, designs, and materials. But the one that every radio collector wants is its 1936 model that is officially named "The Fisk" (named in honor of the noted Australian radio pioneer Sir Ernest Fisk). This model is also referred to as "The Skyscraper" for obvious architectural reasons, and it is reputedly the first bakelite case radio ever produced in Australia. Interesting Art Deco elements are at the very heart of this model's design, including molded vertical and horizontal rounded crossribbing that heightens the case's exceptional look. As an Australian-produced electronic appliance, this fully working radio receiver works on 240 volts and still has its original chassis and a perfect cloth-covered power cord. Interesting features for "Skyscraper" include listings of the Australian and New Zealand radio station call letters around the frequency selector dial, plus a distant and local ("D/L") switch at the rear of the chassis. There is a missing cardboard back plate and a hole on the acetate dial scale, otherwise nice condition.
