Description
New Page 1 Up for auction is a working 1920's MADERA SHELL DESIGN RADIO HORN SPEAKER in extremely nice condition. This shell design speaker was made by the American Art Mache Co. and more than likely has been repainted a flat black. The reason I say that it has been repainted is because there are no scuffs, nicks or scratches on it. There are, however, areas where there are imperfections: some nicks and two surface cracks on the bottom of the base that don't show the composite makeup of this horn because of the repaint (?). The two cracks on the bottom are seen in the picture and do no go all the way through. More than likely, they are cracks from age and do not effect the stability of the base. The horn and base are made of a pressed material similar to a repwood. Hence, there will be imperfections from the molds. The bell (shell) and the neck of the horn have been molded together and show a seam line where they are attached. This was done at the factory. I took two pictures to show you the quality of the work. Please keep in mind that these horns, when produced, were meant to be of the more economical variety, so the depth of the design is not quite as pronounce as the more expensive horns. With all that said, it is a very nice heavy duty horn speaker that isn't going to fall apart on you. It has a leaf design coming down the neck and a pinwheel base. The driver is a bakelite Nathaniel Baldwin and it tests for good continuity with a 9 volt battery and a Simpson OHM meter so it works. The cord is excellent showing minor wear to the outer cloth covering. Both tips are present with some wear on the cloth at the base of the tips. This measures 10" wide at the bell, approx. overall depth is 9" and the overall height is 22 1/2". The bell and the base can be separated for shipping purposes. If you have any questions, PLEASE email before bidding. We will contact the successful bidder within 24 hrs. upon completion of the auction to verify shipping address and method of payment. DO NOT MAKE PAYMENT UNTIL YOU HEAR BACK FROM US. The total will include the final bid, shipping charges, and $5.00 for packing materials AND signature confirmation. If paying by money order or personal check, $3.00 will be deducted from the packing materials as signature confirmation will not be required. Insurance is optional.
