Description
1940 ZENITH CONSOLE RADIO MODEL 8-S-463 "WEST COAST" This is a very nice Zenith "black Dial" radio ready for restoring. It appears it is all original and complete. The radio works very well on AM and fair on the short wave bands, it needs a good cleaning on the switches and other controls, like I said it is all original even the dust. The dial, knobs, switches are in very good condition as is the glass and metal parts, no dents, cracks or broken parts. the chassis looks clean with no rust or corrosion. The only real problem is the cabinet, it will need some repair on the veneer in different areas, I have done my best to take good pictures and used the large option from ebay to show these areas as best I can. There are three areas on the left side of the cabinet that will need some veneer repair, no. 1 is were the top part of the cabinet meets the bottom part, the veneer is all there but will need to be glued back together. No. 2  the back edge has some veneer missing, about the area of a silver dollar. No. 3 is just above the base, some of this veneer will need replacing, it was so thin that it looks like it was just scraped off in some small areas. there is also one very small area on the front of the cabinet by dial that will need to be glued and clamped, the veneer is fine. Overall this would be a very good radio to restore because it is so original and complete, the radio sounds beautiful and the tone controls still work, I don't know how to adjust the auto push button tuning but it feels like it is sticking and will need cleaning. On shipping I prefer that the radio be picked up in Reedsport OR. (on the coast about 150 miles north of the CA. border), but if you want to pay the expense to have it packed and shipped that is OK with me, OR I go to Yuma, AZ. in OCT via Nevada and for a small fee, drop it off between here and there. If you have any questions please ask before you bid. Thanks.
