It was originally given as a sympathy gift to the parents after the death of B.H. Van Kleef who was born in 1859 and died in 1884 in Holland - the plaque on the back commemorates this event and reads:AANB.H. Van KleefC.E. Wolterbeek1859 10/26 1884VANE.J. En J.M. v KMeasures 17-1/2 inches tall and 9 inches wide on a base that is 6-1/4 inches wide and 3 inches deep. The base and cross are made of wood. No metal marks, but after testing by a jeweler, it proved to be sterling with a gold wash. The body of Christ is cast silver as is the skull and crossbones at the base. The plaque and three cherubs are stamped silver sheeting. The condition of this item is SUPERB! It has developed a beautiful patina. Nothing is broken or cracked, and their are no discernible repairs. Free shipping - I will pack carefully so the item is secure.
