Description
19th Century Priest’s Traveling Communion Set “Museum Quality Silver British Religious Relic” I’m pleased to offer one of the finest antique pieces that I’ve ever seen. You needn’t be a fan of religious artifacts to appreciate the beauty, fineness, and history of this unique set. This is the traveling communion set of the Reverend J.G. Gregory, given to him by the teachers of the Trinity Church Sunday Schools in Coventry, England on April 7, 1856. This beautiful set is housed in its original English leather box with a royal blue silk lining Included in this set is a signed and numbered sterling silver goblet with matching wafer tray, and a small beveled crystal decanter with silver cap for holding the wine. Both the goblet and tray have the letters “IHS” monogrammed on them. It virtually gives you “chills” just pondering the history of a set like this. When you consider the age, location, and potential people whose lives were impacted by this set and the dutiful priest who carried it, it’s simply amazing. This fine set is complete, and everything inside appears to be original. I have not polished it, but kept it in its original condition. The nameplate on the outside reads: “Presented to the Rev. J.G. Gregory by the teachers of Trinity Church Sunday Schools, Coventry April 7th, 1856” As I indicated earlier, you are buying a moment of history that can never be duplicated. Don’t miss your opportunity to own this “priceless” set. Please see pictures as part of description. Experienced collectors know, and new collectors should be aware that truly vintage and/or antique items will have some type(s) of slight or minor imperfections or marks of character. These are the time-acquired features that lead collectors to wonder about how the piece must have been used and by whom. Such marks of use and character give fine pieces their authenticity, charm, and desirability. Please understand that most of the items that we sell are either truly vintage or antique, so expect some wear unless we specify mint or similar condition. Before placing a bid please carefully review photographs and if you have any questions e-mail me before bidding to avoid any potential misunderstanding.
