Description
Art Deco Kellogg Model 9917 Masterphone Bakelite Wall Telephone This wonderful Kellogg model 9917 bakelite housing phone has been truly meticulously restored inside and out. Works and rings like it did over 70 years ago. You can receive and dial out calls with this phone. This phone is made out of Thick solid bakelite. Not thermoplastic like the later Western Electric desk sets. Kellogg was established in 1897 in Highland Park IL and then moved to Chicago. The Kellogg family sold their controlling interests to ITT in 1951. Then the name was ITT Kellogg". Later ITT dropped the Kellogg name altogether, sometime in the 60’s. ITT was acquired by Alcatel, then acquired by Cortelco and known as Cortelco Kellogg. The name “Kellogg” has since been dropped from its name and the company is now known as Cortelco. This scarce wall phone is a great example of mid 30s art deco machine age design. These are hard to find to begin with, and even harder to find without chips or cracks since the bakelite is so fragile. This Art Deco phone really has such a pretty bell sound! One bell gong has a higher tone than the other one to produce a unique bell sound that only an old telephone can give you. I recorded the actual ring from this telephone so you can hear it. Click on the small phone below to hear the ring. 264 KB wave file Equipped with a beautiful Z Operator porcelian plate. Has a new AE style narrow design numbercard in the center. The fingerwheel & dial center ring are nickle plated brass and beautiful. The dial has been renovated and pulses correctly at 10 pulses per second (bell system standard). I really enjoy working on telephones & I spend many, many hours on each phone. I never take shortcuts or skip details to compromise the quality. I am a perfectionist. Check out my about page to learn more about my restorations. This phone is beautiful. No chips or cracks or repairs. Produced in the 1930s, this phone is an example of industrial design at it's peak! No scratches, haze or roughness on this phone. This phone has been expertly restored. Please note that the Masterphone nameplate is mounted using nice nickel rivets, the rivets in the photo below have reflections that somehow makes it look like they are mounted with phillips head screws. I never use clearcoats, paint or any other additive on my bakelite. The extreme deco bakelite handset has been cleaned and polished back to it's original gloss. The handset has been fitted with a black N.O.S. Extensicord from 1958. I guarantee this phone is complete, working and has all original parts. The only items I replaced are the cloth cords and the numbercard. I pay attention to all details, inside and out. The inside of the phone is all original and complete with the original Kellogg ringer, induction coil and capacitor. This layout of components was considered extremely compact in the mid 1930s! Very innovative back then! I carefully double box pack with bubble wrap & peanuts so your phone arrives to you safely. I accept paypal, money orders and personal checks.
