Description The Assyrian winged genie is most often depicted attending to the Tree of Life. Upswept and downswept wings identify him as a being who straddles both heaven and the underworld. The conelike fruit (mullilu) may represent either a bunch of dates from the tree of life or a staminate blossom of the date palm brought to fertilize the pistillate flower. The little pail or basket (banduddu) is a container, accordingly, of either fruit or pollen symbolic of the life elixir.The genie is a guardian figure and corresponds with the serpent king (Naga Raja) of Indian mythology.
