Churchill Downs Medallion front view - click on image to see a super-size view Our Churchill Downs medallion, from our Landmark Medals™ collection, features the location of the world's most famous horse-racing event, The Kentucky Derby. It is truly a magnificent tribute to a horse-racing facility that has contributed greatly to the success of thoroughbred horse racing and breeding. The image shows the exciting first turn with the grandstand and world famous twin spires in the background. The attached capsule contains authenticated dirt from the mile long oval. Our Landmark Medals™ medallions are high-relief sculptures and show marvelous attention to detail. Cast in unleaded pewter, the medallions feature city’s signature skylines, famous buildings, treasured monuments and other iconic images. Landmark Medal™ medallions are great personal mementos. They also make wonderful gifts for corporate meetings, civic and sporting events or any other special functions. Landmark Medals™ are designed and cast by American medallic artisans in Indiana. The pewter medallion is beautifully presented on a museum-quality green marble display base - to which it is permanently mounted. The display measures approximately 4 inches in diameter and stands approximately 4 inches tall. The overall weight is approximately 1 pound, 4 ounces. The medallion are produced for us by a private mint under a licensing agreement with Churchill Downs. ● We have other landmarks & cities available - and can make medallions for all - please contact us for more information ● ● If you're planning a horse-racing event or an event in a major U.S. city please contact us for volume pricing ● Churchill Downs, located in Louisville, Kentucky, is a thoroughbred racetrack most famous for hosting the Kentucky Derby annually. It officially opened in 1875, and held the first Kentucky Derby and the first Kentucky Oaks in the same year. Churchill Downs has also hosted the renowned Breeders' Cup on six occasions, most recently in 2006. Churchill Downs was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. The twin spires atop the grandstands are the most recognizable architectural feature of Churchill Downs and are used as a symbol of the track and the Derby. Today, Churchill Downs covers 147 acres. Seating capacity is 51,000, though crowds at the Derby can reach over 165,000 because of standing-room only admission to the paddock and infield. Racing at Churchill Downs occurs in two meets. The spring meet starts one week before the Derby and continues until early July. The Kentucky Derby is held the first Saturday in May and the Kentucky Oaks is run on Friday, the day before the Derby. A fall meet picks up in late October and closes Thanksgiving weekend in late November. In addition to the track, clubhouse and stables, Churchill Downs also contains the Kentucky Derby Museum which focuses on the history of the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs. side view - click on image to see a super-size view Buy With Confidence From The Perfect Coin® Finest Quality - We offer only the finest coins, coin sets, medals, and currency - no hype, no inflated grades, no altered pictures! 100% Money-back Guarantee - Never a hassle - if you don't like an item for any reason return it for a full refund - plus we will refund original shipping costs.
