Description
For sale today is an Edison Maroon Gem.  This machine is equipped with the Model "K" Reproducer.  The horn is the two piece Fireside (originally equipped) Horn.  The two piece horn crane and chain are reproductions.  This is a very nice original machine.  The horn has the normal small chips and dents.  I have pictured some of the paint loss.  The worst panel is shown on photos (7) and (12).  The color of the machine is strong and deep,  It has been spared the chipping and scratching of most. Note the condition of the left and right sides. Most of these machines that show up on Ebay and  shows are faded and weathered.  This one is not.  The lid has three small chips on the edges.  I have tried to photograph them.  They do not show up well.  The  "4 Minute 2" decal shows some wear.  The rear top stripping looks as if it were touched up at one time.  Yes,   I am picking my machine apart.  I have bought and sold on Ebay and don't like surprises.  Please look at all the pictures before bidding.  The machine will be shipped in two boxes USPS Insured.  I still think they are the safest carrier.   The Gem is of course a two speed machine with a Combination "K" Reproducer.  The reproducer is fine.  The horn easily screws together and does not bind.  The motor has the usual sound.  The machine plays very well. About the Model "D" Gem.  Originally introduced in The U.S. in October of 1909.  The Edison Gem Model "E" was introduced in 1912 and was a four minute only machine.  By model run standards the Maroon Gem was marketed for approximately two years.  The GEM was expressly designed to play both types of records (2 & 4 minute)  and was normally designated "The Combination GEM".   The Machine Dimensions are Height 8 in. Base 10 in. x 7 3/4 in. Weight:  14 1/2 pounds Cabinet and Finish:  The Cabinet is a little longer than earlier models and finished in antique oak;  the body was more stocky.  The metal was finished in maroon with gild and back lining on the sides and top.  The decal 'Edison'  Replaced 'GEM' of previous models n the body front.  The maroon horn provided with the machine differed from the earlier 19 inch straight horn (one piece) as in general the later were made in two parts which screwed together, and were marked FIRESIDE as they were also sold with that machine.  Above information was from The Edison Cylinder Phonograph book by Sefl and Frow. I accept PayPal and Money Orders.  Thank you for looking.      Reserve has been lowered.
