Crystal ' Description   From The Early Days Of Radio   This is an Erla Radio Air Core Toroid Tuning Coil made to cover the broadcast band.  Erla calls this this donut shaped coil a “Balloon Circloid”  It is wound to cover the broadcast band, 200 to 550 meters.  It is wound with cloth covered copper wire with an air core for higher “Q”.  This unit has a secondary coil to couple to an antenna / ground, or to the next stage.   This handsome unit is mounted on a finished wooden base.   The coil measures 5” overall diameter.   There are about nine windings which have been bent and it looks like re-glued to the circular Bakelite band.  This repair is shown clearly in the photos.    This coil from the early days of radio, displays very well and would make a nice tuner for a crystal radio set or other radio project.
