Description
This is a beautiful General Electric for RCA Victor antique console radio. It was probably made in the 1930's to 1940's but antique radio buffs would know immediately. The back has two shelves to hold the glass tubes and mechanical parts. On one shelf are the components for the radio itself. On the second, lower shelf are the systems which power the speakers. The large yellow label in the back pronounces this radio as, "New and Improved General Electric Tone Equalizer". There is even a switch to cut down on the background hum and static common to these early radios. I don't know very much about antiques radios but I will list what is printed on the various labels inside the radio. Volts: 105/125 Super Heterodyne Cycles: 50/60 Watts: 110 Cabinet Dimensions: Height: 43 inches Length: 28 inches Width: 15 inches TODAY 11/18/2006 I PLUGGED IT IN AND IN A SECOND OR TWO, IT BROADCAST LOUD AND VERY CLEAR ON MANY STATIONS. IT HAS BEEN REWIRED BY SOMEONE AS SOME OF THE WIRING HAS BEEN CUT OFF ON THE TOP SHELF. THE LOWER ORIGINAL WIRING APPEARS INTACT BUT MUST RUN UP TO THE FIRST SHELF NOW. BEAUTIFUL CLEAR SOUND, NO STATIC OR HUMMING. TUBES WARMED UP IN A SECOND OR TWO IN MY COLDER GARAGE.I Many of the very large tubes are encased in metal covers as shown. All the original labels and diagrams for its tubes and parts are there on the back. I know that if a tube needs replacement, there are companies that specialize in the old glass tubes and parts. I had three table model antique radios and was able to have them restored to working condition by purchasing new tubes. The wood cabinet, dials and switches are all there. The cabinet has some wood stratches which can be restored as well by a knowledgeable furniture man. Right now, I would not hesitate to place the cabinet in my living room, it is that pretty. The stratches are more toward the back than the front. The speaker material has two very small(1/2 penny size) cloth areas which are slightly torn or just unraveling from age. These areas need not to be replaced as yet unless you want to. When the radio is not in use, there are two small doors which cover the dial area. It is a dark, heavy solid wood cabinet. Two people were needed to lift it into a truck. Due to its weight, it can be picked up in Denver at my home or arrangements can be made to ship it by moving truck or other freight means. Please inquire before bidding and I will do my best to answer your questions. If you need additional photos of certain areas, I will gladly take them and e-mail them to you.
