I don't have my own cinema either, so the needles remain in their tin. They are the only ones of the sort I have ever seen, and friends who also collect 78's and gramophones have never seen them before either. Very probably pre-war, but I can't see a date anywhere. Apart from obvious signs of age, the tin and needles are in very good condition. The needles rest on black paper, with a folded-up flyer for Songster sound boxes on top, stopping the needles from rattling. (Top right-hand corner missing from flyer but otherwise intact). NB., picture on tin has bird inside the sun, not next to it. There are two sizes of needle, 51 large and 53 small. Tin says "average contents 100", so you get four more than expected. They are also a nice golden colour, and quite shiny, so they may indeed be gold, but I can't offer any guarantees (nor about the counting, but I did do it carefully). By the normal expedient of holding them point-on and twiddling them in the light, these needles look unused (this is not a definitive, scientific test, obviously).
