Description GPO 232L BAKELITE PYRAMID TELEPHONE, WORKING! ITEM DETAILS: Aside from the handset, which has some general use wear and a scattering of tiny surface pits in the bakelite around the mouthpiece (see photo), this beautiful vintage 1/232L pyramid phone is in truly remarkable condition with immaculate glossy black casing and base, and it retains its original braided handset cord which is also in excellent undamaged condition. The bakelite has not been damaged, repaired, painted or treated in any way, it's simply one of the best preserved and original casings I've seen in recent years. It's as bright as a button having been carefully disassembled, serviced and professionally converted by a former GPO engineer before being cleaned, reassembled and tested thoroughly. PLEASE NOTE: These 200 series telephones have no internal bell so this phone will require some kind of external ringer for incoming calls. All original parts have been retained (aside from the modern BT plug-in lead obviously) and it has the 'cheese drawer' with a scarce bright metal flap which slides in and out smoothly and contains an old copy of the Liverpool dialling codes . The dial is siky smooth and quiet, and it has the less common alpha-numeric enamel dial backing. Overall it's an outstanding example of a genuine vintage phone and I'm told the 1/232 was the first version so I suspect it's older than most. The photos do it little justice, it would grace any collection and as always there's a realistic start and no reserve so happy bidding! PLEASE NOTE!! This telephone works using loop-disconnect (or pulse) dialling, it's wise to check that your telecoms network supplier supports this dialling method. Most suppliers do, they should be able to enable this function for free, and it MUST be enabled for the phone to work on outgoing calls.
