Description
*Please read full description before placing your bid* Offered for your consideration is a vibrant Maroon Garod "Commander" with Butterscotch trim, model # 6AU1 catalin/bakelite tube radio made circa 1945 in Brooklyn, NY.  John Sideli in his book Classic Plastic Radios of the 1930's & 1940's states, "A sleek and beautiful radio that combines the design features of several earlier models in a very cohesive and successful manner. I think these are among the sharpest radios ever made." This example is in pristine condition having no chips, nicks, dings, scratches, repairs, or tube burns.  There is one very tight screwhole stressline on the bottom of the radio at the rear edge.  This Garod has been professionally hand polished and displays a rich warm patina only achieved after 60 years of oxidation.   All parts are factory original catalin (drop handle, wrap-around grille, knobs, plastic dial scale) ,  the chassis is electronically restored and playing well all across the dial.  If you are looking for a handsome addition to your collection, please consider this beauty or one of over 100 other choice condition catalin, character, cobalt blue mirrored, themed, and wood mantle/table top classic radios I have listed.   All are offered with no reserve and with the "make offer" option, so don't be SHY!!!    Please email me with any questions. Be sure to view my other auctions as most are offered with no reserve. This will help you fully understand the item you are bidding on.   MAKE- Garod   MODEL- 6AU1 "Commander"   YEAR- 1945   CASE MATERIAL- Catalin, the Gem of Plastics   SIZE- 11” W x  6 3/4” H x 6 1/8” D   CONDITION- This radio is in excellent condition containing no chips, nicks, dings, deep scratches, repairs, or tube burns, now or in the past.  There is one tight screwhole stressline on the bottom at extreme rear edge.  Does not show when on display and certainly does not detract from the beauty this sleek radio exudes!   The knobs, grill, and handle are factory original butterscotch catalin with a nice even patina.  The plastic dial scale, bottom label and cardboard back are also factory original in excellent condition.  The cabinet has been hand polished with a little Novus #2.   No cosmetic restoration/repair was necessary.   CHASSIS/PLAYING CONDITION-The chassis is clean, complete, and I was able to pick up 3-4 stations that were clear. As a reminder, these vintage catalin radios are not recommended for everyday use, nor should they be played for extended periods of time as that could cause tube burns to the cabinet.   BID WITH CONFIDENCE AS ALL ITEMS ARE GUARANTEED TO BE AS DESCRIBED.
