Description
Spectacular high art deco Stewart & Warner 7-tube tombstone radio in unmolested virgin condition. It has AM plus 2 shortwave bands, and the "magic dial" moves up vertically to expose the AM or SW band selected. The dial lights up and it hums when turned on, and the volume control works but I could not access the stations because it needs a new dial string and two knobs are missing. When you look closely, it is obvious that this radio has never been refinished. It even has the original cord and plug. There are a very few minor defects, all pictured - two small chips on the back end of the left side where the veneer is pulling loose (can easily be reglued), a small nick on the left fluted column, some varnish crazing on the tops of the pilasters, and very light crazing on the rest of the finish. The speaker has a small 1/4" repair but is in very good condition....................The radio cabinet is 19 by 14-1/2 by 12-1/4 inches and very heavy - 29 pounds. It is also apparently very rare - no pictures on the internet or in radio books. The styling is the best part, and it rivals the very best high-end Zeniths for sheer eye appeal. This may be the best of the few surviving examples of this high end radio, which probably cost $75 or more during the worst year of the depression. You really can't duplicate the patina of and original unrestored radio like this one.On Nov-25-08 at 20:45:20 PST, seller added the following information: thefreewayfreak store
