Description
Up for bids is a nice working Hallecrafters TW-1000 "World Wide" Multiband Portable. The TW-1000 and TW-2000 are the Hallicrafters version of the ever-popular Zenith Trans Oceanic radios. The Hallicrafters model is well made and functions well. I dis-assembled the radio and cleaned it up. I removed all the front parts and cleaned them individually. The cabinet is basically in good condition, but shows some wear. I glued some of the black leatherette covering back into place. The corners are frayed and theres a scuff on the back edge, it is visable in the photos. The black material is in good condition overall, theres a few paint fleks, none is severe. The tiny pinstriping detail at the edges of the cabinet is also in good condition overall. The map of the world on the inside of the lid is in good condition. The dial, dial pointer, chrome dial bezel, knobs, front logo and antenna are all nice clean originals. I removed and cleaned all these components. The hinges on the bottom of the back cover are rusted slightly. The chrome bezel is clean, it does have slight pitting, but it is not too severe. The glass dial is nice and clean. The numerals, and lettering on the radio dial are in excellent condition and the dial is very clean. The knobs are in good condition, they show some wear on the shiny metal inserts. The original black perforated grill area was severely damaged. The tweed grill cloth is a replacement. It looks like an old piece, it is in good condition and it looks fantastic. The winning bidder can easily remove it if so desired, but the original grill is missing pieces and broken apart. The speaker itself is in good condition. I removed it as well and cleaned the dust out of the paper speaker cone and metal frame. The radio plays. I tested and replaced any bad tubes. The tubes are all good, including the hard-to-find 1L6 converter tube. I replaced the electrolytic capacitors and all of the fractional value capacitors beneath the chassis. I did NOT replace the four fractional value caps within the bandswitch assembly housing. These caps are in an inaccessible area and removal of the entire tuning assembly is required to do so. The radio plays well. It picks up AM Broadcast stations as well as short wave on several bands. One of the bands is the old police band and it is little used. On other bands, many stations can be heard nite and day. The radio does work on all bands. I used a short wire antenna for reception, however, a longer wire antenna will allow increased reception. The telescoping antenna is also in good condition. I cleaned it with oil-it was difficult to raise and lower, but now it works OK. The bandswitch and tuning dial mechanisms work properly. Each is a sophisticated system and they too work well. The chassis is clean and free of rust. The original "Skyrider" antenna is still attached to the bracket on the rear cover of the radio, as is the original paper tag. Overall, the TW-1000 is in good working condition. It shows some wear, but overall, it is in good shape. Stamped on the chassis top it states: Run # 1A. Serial number: 92419. The chassis is marked with the following number in black ink: 199607 and stamped on the back with the number: 70E1324. The radio measures: 18 X 11 X 8 in size. Bid on the TW-1000 for your collection. The winning bidder may wish to bid on this receiver for the good working chassis-to replace a non-functioning chassis. Bid on the TW-1000 "as is" due to age. NO RESERVE!! E-Mail any questions and please view my other listings. Thanks for looking.
