Description
Handmade Buckskin Medicine Bag ~ Tree Of Life~This sturdy buckskin medicine bag measures 2 ½” by 4” long. It is soft and a rich tone of buckskin. On the flap is a wooden disc of the Tree Of Life. It looks wood burned or laser treated to me. It measures 1 ½” wide. It is framed with twisted taupe deerskin and comes down to a double fringe that is 3 ½” long and decorated with a bone disc bead and a clay brown and white bead. The taupe fringe measures 6” and is decorated with bone disc beads and dark red and black swirl tile beads. The strap measures 32” long and is decorated with the same clay brown and white beads. There is a piece of fox fur on the front of the bag. What Wikipedia has to say about the Tree Of Life:"In Germanic paganism, trees played (and, in the form of reconstructive Heathenry and Germanic Neopaganism, continue to play) a prominent role, appearing in various aspects of surviving texts and possibly in the name of gods. The tree of life appears in Norse religion as Yggdrasil, the world tree, a massive tree (sometimes considered a yew or ash tree) with extensive lore surrounding it. Perhaps related to Yggdrasil, accounts have survived of Germanic Tribes honouring sacred trees within their societies. Examples include Thor's Oak, sacred groves, the Sacred tree at Uppsala, and the wooden Irminsul pillar. In Norse Mythology it is the apples from Iðunn's ash box that provides immortality for the gods. In mystical traditions of world religions, sacred texts are read for metaphorical content concerning the relationship between states of mind and the external experience of reality. As such, the tree is a manifestation/causal symbol - the Tree of Life representing the coveted state of eternal aliveness or fulfillment, not immortality of the body or soul. In such a state, physical death (which cannot be overcome) is nevertheless a choice, and direct experience of the perfect goodness/divine reality/god is not only possible, but everpresent."There was a lot at Wikipedia...seems that just about every culture had/has reverence for trees. Rooted in Earth but reaching for Heaven.I love trees and especially because they provide me with the best company around, books! On my medicine wheel I have tree where buffalo generally goes. As I see it in my culture without trees to provide us with so many things that we need and depend on, we’d be up the creek. I chose our new apartment because we’re side by side to the woods and I can just about reach out and touch all those yummie trees. It greens my life up. I need green.Smoke-free environment. Thanks for stopping by.
