Executed in enamel over copper. This bowl has a lavender and blue foamy enamel effect over shimmering silver on the interior. Blue blending to green at the rim on the exterior. Artist signed on the back as shown. Measures: 3 and 7/8 inches tall and 12 inches in diameter at the widest point. No dings, dents or splits to the metal. No crazing or wear. 2 small spider like inclusions in the enamel in the center of the bowl visible upon close inspection in bright light. A few pinpoint size enamel flakes on the underside of the rim. Excellent condition, no chips, dings, dents or enamel loss. Pristinely clean. About the Artist Edward Winter (b. 1908) A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art, Edward Winter also studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, Austria. He taught the first class in enameling in the United States, in 1935 at the Cleveland School of Art and later wrote three internationally acclaimed books on the subject. He is credited with finding simplified methods for applying enamel on copper. Winter is considered to be one of the masters of american enamelists and recently had an entire chapter dedicated to his work in the Important book "PAINTING WITH FIRE.
