Many merchants sell synthetic oils and market them as essential oils.  Synthetics are basically useless in aromatherapy and do not have as good of a scent as their natural counterparts.   Even in magickal practices, it is highly advised to use true, natural essential oil.  As quoted by Scott Cunningham in is book, The Complete Book of Incense, Oils, and Brews:   “It’s best to use only genuine, authentic essential oils in magic.  These contain the sum of the plant’s magical energies and so are the most effective”. Scott Cunningham     Some things to watch out for when you buy essential oils:  Fragrance:  Not all plant products produce enough volatile oils to be captured in essential oil form. Anyone that markets scents like pineapple, cucumber, gardenia, lilac or berry- scents are not selling true essential oils.  Lilac and gardenia have a very low oil content and to capture its true scent. One would have to make a tincture or an absolute with their flowers.   Price:  Essential oils are expensive and the only way we have been able to market them to our customers at the price we do is through finding reputable bulk wholesalers with decent prices.  Oil of Rose or Jasmine are extremely pricey and one should question if they find such oils at a very low price.   Consistency: Essential oils should not be overly greasy.  They are the volatile oils and essences of plant materials, not a type of fatty substance that regular oils are usually from.If the oils are greasy and heavy, then more likely they are synthetic or mixed with a carrier oil.  Our oils are uncut and undiluted unless otherwise specified.   Please make sure to use these oils with a carrier oil of some type like sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil.These oils are potent and can cause irritation to the skin if not diluted. Please keep them out of the reach of children.
