The deck was designed by Chantal Bougenieres, a famous psychic medium, who grew up in Southern France - an area where life centers around bullfighting.  The Mithra divinity is linked to the sun and bull - seen in the style of the cards.  The Mithra is associated with Mars and the Bull is associated with Venus.  The bullfight area takes on new symbolic meaning as a place where the matador meets the bull when you have war and love meeting.
