Description
Here's an extraordinarily beautiful, completely original Edison Home cylinder phonograph.  It's a Model B that dates to about 1908, and it features combination gearing so that it can play both 2 and 4 minute cylinders.  The museum quality phonograph comes with a stunning original 11-panel, hand-painted morning glory horn that is among the nicest original flower horns I've ever seen.  Also included are is an original front-mount horn crane and two Edison Gold-Moulded cylinders, so the phonograph and horn will be ready to display and play as soon as they arrive.      As you can see in the photographs, the phonograph itself is nearly perfect, with a bedplate whose original enamel finish is still deep black and reflective as black glass.  The cabinet finish is also original, and the original Edison cabinet decal is outstanding -- the best original scroll decal I've ever seen on a "B" or any other model.  The delicate original gold pinstriping is better than 90%, with wear evident only in two or three places, most prominently beneath the on/off switch.  The nickel-plated cabinet fittings exhibit a beautiful patina and are not corroded or layered with rust, as you typically see on even the nicer original machines.   The motor is clean, the winding shaft is rust free, the governor weights and springs are all in outstanding condition -- just a beautiful musical antique throughout.   The lid is excellent, with no crushed corners, no open joints, and no lifting or damaged veneer.  There's some minor finish wear along the lid's side edges, but as you can see in the photos, it's insignificant in scope and possibly the only evidence of wear on the entire machine.    The blue morning glory horn is 100% original.  No repainting, not even any touch-ups, anywhere.  Its original hand-painted roses still line the interior of the bell, and their colors remain vibrant; its original, hand-painted yellow pistil still projects from within the interior of the flare; and the original, hand-painted gold trim still runs along the periphery of the petals.  As wholly original 100-year-old painted horns go, particularly blue irridescent ones, it doesn't get much much better this -- condition-wise or beauty-wise.  As you can see in the photographs, there are marks and some paint loss, along with a nominal amount of surface oxidation, but most of the wear is on the exterior of the horn, and even so, you will be hard-pressed to find a better unrestored blue flower horn on ebay or anywhere else.  The horn is suspended from the phonograph by an original Edison front mount horn crane, with a notched end on the lower part of the support rod.  The crane is complete, including the original chain and, support bracket and foot.   The phonograph operates wonderfully, and it sounds great.  There's virtually no gear noise, and the motor is so strong that the machine is able to cycle through six or more cylinders with a single winding -- an amazing feat that rivals the playing power of even a well-maintained Edison Triumph.  The combination gearing works properly, and with the proper reproducer mounted in the carriage, the machine can play pretty much any type of cylinder around: 2 minute, 4 minute, brown wax, Gold-Moulded, Indestructible, Amberol, Blue Amberol, Lakeside, Oxford, etc.  Included with the phonograph is an original "C" reproducer for 2-minute cylinders.  Also included are two Edison cylinders in excellent condition.  If you'd like to play 4-minute cylinders, you can purchase either an "H" or "K" reproducer.  They're available on ebay from reputable third party vendors, many of whom -- such as Croakinfrog Antiques -- sell them in top condition with rebuilt gaskets.   I will double-box the phonograph and horn and pack everything carefully and properly.  The horn will be shipped in one oversized package, the phonograph will be shipped in another.  Due to the large size of the horn, this phonograph and horn are for sale only to US and Canadian addresses.  They cannot be shipped overseas.  I can assure you that they will show up at your doorstep in the same fine condition in which it leaves mine.  I have been shipping antique phonographs and radios for years, and if you check my feedback, you'll see that I know how to do it correctly.   If you're not already familiar with how to operate an early cylinder phonograph, don't worry.  I'll provide you with simple, easy to understand set-up instructions, so you'll be able to use this wonderful machine within minutes after you unpack it.  Buyer prepays and includes shipping.  Paypal okay.
