Description
abbrad Store Check out this nice old loose coupler. I have never actually used a crystal radio, but I tried this one and will report my findings. First, I used my ohmmeter to check all the connections. They are connected with green cloth covered wire and they are fine. Both coils read fine too. The cat's whisker is here as is the crystal. The inside coil slides easily and the pickup on the outside coil is fine.I used a short piece of wire as an antenna and didn't pick up any stations. I had no ground connected. I then used my signal generator and was able to receive a strong signal from it. I could tune with the outside coil and peak the volume by sliding the inside coil in and out. I didn't tune the whole range, but with the slider set close to the middle, it was picking up around 1mhz - so I would guess this receives normal broadcast band signals.
