Both coils read fine too.  The cat's whisker is here as is the crystal.  The inside coil slides easily and the pickup on the outside coil is fine.I used a short piece of wire as an antenna and didn't pick up any stations.  I had no ground connected.  I then used my signal generator and was able to receive a strong signal from it.  I could tune with the outside coil and peak the volume by sliding the inside coil in and out.  I didn't tune the whole range, but with the slider set close to the middle, it was picking up around 1mhz - so I would guess this receives normal broadcast band signals.
