The teapot features the wording “North End Hotel” on the side of it in excellent cursive style letters. The teapot was made by the Rogers Bros. Silver plate Co. and is marked on the bottom “North End Hotel – Ocean Grove N.J., ½ Pints”. This teapot would have been used in the hotel’s dining room / restaurant or for room service, and would have been used in connection with the hotel’s china for table settings. This is the heavyweight type Railroad, Steamship, and Lunch Counter silverplate. The North End Hotel was located on the boardwalk on the Atlantic Ocean and was considered one of the most expensive hotels in Ocean Grove. During this era, it was a summer resort hotel, where people coming to enjoy the summer at the hotel and enjoy the amusement park atmosphere and Wesley Lake, would primarily arrive by either the Pennsylvania or the Central of New Jersey Railroads. The hotel also had the Pavilion, which was for gambling. However in 1938, I believe the hotel, the Pavilion, and much of the beach area of Ocean Grove was damaged heavily in a Hurricane. Sadly, only the Pavilion portion is all that exist today of the once grand hotel. The teapot is in wonderful condition with the usual usage scratches and a couple of very minor dings, but overall looks wonderful. The inside is in wonderful condition and also looks great! A great addition to your Hotel, Ocean Grove, Creamer / Pitcher / Coffee Pot, or Silver Plate collection and it is ready to display. The digital images do not show the original silver item that well.
