Description
Be sure to check out our radio auctions with new listings on Sunday and Thursday nights! Here we have one of the most extreme Art Deco designed table radios Philco ever produced. The stunning 1941 Philco 231 ‘Bullet’. This highly desirable radio has it all; Beautiful streamline designed cabinet, Zebra stripe base, push button tuning, AM & Shortwave bands. Cabinet: The Art Deco cabinet is in remarkable condition. An eye catching curvy design lead to the ’bullet’ nickname and really sets this radio apart from the typical square set. Gorgeous wood grain runs throughout the cabinet and is contrasted beautifully by the zebra stripe base. The inset center is a real attention getter and displays the pushbuttons, call letters in a brass plate, dial, knobs, and horizontal grill louvers. This streamlined beauty is sure to be the highlight of any room in the home or office you choose to display it in. Please email me to see photos with Zoom Views. Be sure to view my other Radio Auctions! The Cabinet’s Finish: All of our radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process using a minimum 12 coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners. A 1000, 2000, & 4000 grit wet sanding follows every third coat. The process is finished off with a three step polishing process with a final Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into these cabinets but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful cabinet with a silk smooth finish and gorgeous luster & shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the house or office. Dial/Knobs: The three bullet knobs and pushbuttons are in excellent condition and each function the way they should. The pushbutton tuning is a nice unique feature but it is recommended that you use the manual tuning knob due to the age and the fragileness of the pushbutton mechanism. The red and gold dial is in great shape as is the airplane dial pointer. All letters and numbers indicating station frequencies are legible and show little signs of wear. The dial lamp also works as it should. Electronics/Chassis: The 6 tube chassis is in excellent condition. The set plays beautifully on both the AM broadcast and shortwave bands with sensitive reception, rich warm tone, lots of volume and no hum. The set features a copper loop antenna which I bypassed with a line antenna (included) for optimal reception. The loop antenna is still attached and can be used if you wish. All of our sets chassis’s are thoroughly cleaned, lubed and realigned. All tubes, caps and resistors are tested and replaced as needed. I will include a 30 day warranty on the tubes, caps and filters. Dimensions: 15 ½“W x 9 ½“H x 6 ½“D. Approximate Shipping cost: $40 East Coast, $50 Central, $55 West Coast. I sell quality antique radios and describe them accurately. Please check my feedback. 100% positive, all on Antique Radio Sales. I make sure they are ready for your displaying and listening pleasure. Over the past 15 years we have sold many sets to our valued customers, museums, high profile businesses, and as TV/Movie props. All have been extremely pleased, so bid with confidence. I have many years experience in packing and shipping these radios. I box using new oversized boxes, new bubble wrap, and new shipping peanuts so you can be assured they arrive safely. Winning bidder pays shipping and handling charges. I ship to the Continental US only but may make certain exceptions. If you are not in the Continental US and want to bid on my radio please email me first. If you do not email me first I will retract your bid. I accept Pay Pal, Checks, or Money orders.
