Description
Offered here for auction is a very rare Catalin radio known as the "Tom Thumb" from 1938 manufactured by the Automatic Radio Mfg. Co. Original designer was J. Samson Spencer. This is a rare radio even if found in butterscotch. However, this particular version is extremely hard to find offered in the "orchid" color which is actually pink Catalin. Those who have the John Sideli Collector's Guide to Catalin Radios will find this model on page 37. As noted by Sideli, he had at the time of publication only seen the radio in yellow, although the advertised colors were nile green, azure blue, red, virgin gold, orchid, and ivory (butterscotch). This charming deco radio is rather small with dimensions measuring 7 1/2" X 5 3/8" X 4 1/4". This radio appears to be in totally original and in fabulous condition. This radio even has it's original power cord, antennae, grill cloth and back. The radio is in perfect condition with no cracks, no chips, no dings, no repairs to the cabinet right down to the three feet. The knobs, dial, and tuning needle are in pristine condition. Radio lights and plays strongly. I can't imagine any example of this color and model Tom Thumb surpassing this one up for auction. Email with questions. Buyer is to pay all shipping and insurance. Payment can be made by PayPal or by personal check. Note that with personal checks, the item will not ship until the personal check has cleared the bank. Bid with confidence.
