(b Reppen [now Rzepin, Poland], 18 March 1865; d Berlin, 23 Jan 1929). German sculptor. He began his apprenticeship at the age of 14 as a woodcarver in Berlin, continuing his studies from 1881 to 1885 at the Kunstgewerbemuseum and from 1885 to 1890 at the Hochschule der Künste, under Fritz Schaper.
