Description
I recently sold off most of my antique phonograph business (www.misterphonograph.com) - this machine was one of the few items left. I hung onto a few things (like this) with the intention of keeping them for myself, but now I could use the money more than this machine :( Please check my other auctions for other fine antique phonographs. This is rather rare bird - a Brooks Automatic Repeating Phonograph, made in Saginaw, MI. Some very interesting features of this machine:- it is NOT veneered. It is solid mahogany.- it has a built-in record repeater (hence the name)- it comes with the original (unused) record index- it comes with the original instructions- it comes with a letter to the ORIGINAL owner from the Brooks Company, regarding an upgrade- it comes with the ORIGINAL keyCondition is outstanding - this really is one of the most beautiful mahogany cabinets I have come across. Finish is alligatored, but is even. Has some minor nicks/scratches, but nothing serious. Check it out: even the BACK is finished.100% original - no reproduction parts. Mechanically, it needs some minor adjustments; the machine will play, but sometimes slows down during playback. The repeater works, but doesn't seem to have enough strength to make it back to the start of the record. Sound is quite good for an off-brand machine. Reproducer has been rebuilt and tuned. Motor was cleaned, lubricated, and adjusted back in 2005, but as mentioned earlier needs additional adjustment.Repeater works as such: the operator selects how many times they wish for the record to be repeated - none, 1 through 8, or indefinitely. The long extension "arm" is set to indicate the outer edge of the record. Crank it up, turn the indicator to the on position, and away you go! Pretty high tech stuff! NO RESERVE. 10% of this sale will be donated to the Children's hospital of Philadelphia, in memory of my son Eli Reuben Brown, who died on May19, 2008. I welcome questions - just ask. Would be happy to try to provide additional pics as well if you like. I can deliver this machine safely to the Wayne, NJ phonograph show on October 12, 2008 for an additional fee of $50. Otherwise, buyer is responsible for shipping and insurance. Insurance is a MUST. I am not equipped to pack this item; packing/crating this item for shipment is the responsibility of the buyer. I WILL, however, be glad to help in any way I can - just ask! Info for obtaining shipping quotes: machine is 51" x 24" x 22". Estimated weight is 75 pounds. Item would be picked up at a residence - the zip code is 19606. That should give you enough info to obtain a shipping quote. If you want to come and pick it up, I can safely store it here for you for up to 2 months after the auction. After that, I will charge a monthly storage fee of $20 per month. I accept paypal, personal checks, cashier's checks, and money orders. Personal checks will need to clear prior to item being shipped. Payment must be received within 7 days of the end of the auction. Check out my other items!Be sure to add me to your favorites list!
