Description
This wonderful Western Electric Rare Candlestick Telephone is very beautiful and highly collectable. IF YOU WANT A BEAUTIFUL WESTERN ELECTRIC DESK PHONE for your collection, THIS IS IT! This is a Type 22 that was only made in 1902-03. If you are a collector you know how hard these are to find and how desirable they are. These phones preceded the standard 20B which was the standard Bell System candlestick phone that was made 1904-12. The Type 22 is unique because it has an early perch which collectors refer to as a "Hershey Kiss" perch which resembles the earlier Western Electric perches. It also has a side screw that holds the switch contact post to the stem rather than the base. It also has a wooden/metal bottom cover, an early cast stem bolt, and a perch that is marked 22. The base, stem, switch hook, and perch made of brass and finished in black as found. The black finish has a few nicks and scratches but is in VERY GOOD condition for a 105 year old phone. The transmitter, back cup, and thumb nut assembly is made of nickel plated brass and looks WAY BETTER than in the close up pictures. The transmitter is the earlier type and the face plate is marked WESTERN ELECTRIC COMPANY 229W. The ealy transmitter back cup is marked PATENTED IN USA NOV 1-92, The mouthpiece is a Western Electric that is made of bakelite. The correct Western Electric receiver is what is referred to as a "Pony Receiver" and is made of hard rubber. It has the early outside terminals, is original, and is in excellent condition. PLEASE NOTE: The receiver is included in the purchase price of this telephone. But, if the high bidder does not need the receiver I will discount the successful purchaser's high bid by $175 and I will keep the receiver. This phone is a highly desirable collectors item so has NOT been made to work. To make this phone work would require an early oak common battery subset and a line cord. When I found this phone the cords were shot, the stem bolt had been broken, and the bottom cover was missing. This is not unusual since cloth deteriorates, and the stem bolts were made of a cast material that broke very easily. I obtained the replacement cords from a craftsman that makes cords with the old machines that made the originals, and had a couple of mastercraftmen make the broken stem bolt and base cover. This is a great, highly collectable old telephone! Telephones like this are rarely offered on eBay and especially in this nice of condition. I had two extras of this type of phone for many years and have decided to part with them. I sold the first recently at the national Antique Telephone Collectors Association Show. I have set my reserve for this one in line with what I received for the one sold at the show! I want you to be happy with your purchase, so ask questions before bidding. Buyer to pay for USPS priority shipping with delivery confirmation and insurance. I accept money orders, cashiers checks, personal checks, and Paypal. Personal checks will delay shipment until they clear. BID WITH CONFIDENCE! I do all the repair work and have been collecting and restoring telephones for over 30 years. Please READ my feedback. NO BIDS FROM OUTSIDE THE USA WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL - NO EXCEPTIONS! TELEPHONE COLLECTING AND RESTORATION IS A WONDERFUL HOBBY THAT I HAVE ENJOYED FOR OVER 30 YEARS!
