On both sides of the mortar is a carved pentacle along with a Celtic style braid that goes around the entire body. The mortar measures at 4" in diameter and is 3" high.  The pestle is 4" long. Due to the nature of stone, there are a few areas on the mortar where the imperfections of the stone are revealed as shown in the pics. These are not chips on the mortar and pestle itself but are a natural occurence when you are dealing with many items carved from stone.
