A fascinating and unusual piece of Victoriana. The lock is solid brass and measures 32cm by 10.5cm and is 3cm in depth. It is generally very well preserved with a clean polished outer surface with few marks or scratches. The key to the lock is no longer present but it appears to be in working order with the lock catch capable of movement and the 'Vacant' and 'Engaged' sign can be moved by tilting the whole mechanism.
