Description
This auction is for a beautiful vintage German Jese Tonmobel Hi-Fi console with a Blaupunkt Sultan tube-type radio (type 2420) and Rex Perpetuum-Ebner turntable.  It measures approximately 31" tall, 39 1/4" wide, and 16" deep. This was purchased at an estate auction in a moment of weakness (just love the look with its dark, high gloss veneer).  I don't know anything about its history, nor am I knowledgable about tube radios or Hi-Fi's from this era.  I'm going to try to overemphasize the flaws but overall, it's a beautiful vintage piece of furniture / Hi-Fi equipment. CabinetIt's my impression, from a bit of browsing on the internet, that this is from the 1950's.  Info on the back of the radio looks like it was made for import into the US, as labels are in both German and English.  The cabinet of the console is beautiful, but not perfect.  The imperfections aren't noticed at first look.  By far the worst is a chip in the plywood/veneer on the back of the top (see last photo) that's about 1" x 1/8".  There are several other minor marks on the top that I don't feel are noticable unless you're looking for flaws.  There's another section on the upper right corner of the back (when viewed from the back, see photo) where the original Jese Tonmobel metal serial number tag (serial number 45286) was hooked and broken off, along with a small section of rear plywood.  There's a slightly raised vertical flaw in the veneer on the radio's sliding cover (see first photo, about 1/3 of the way to the left from the rightmost side of the cover) that's only visible in certain lighting conditions. The sliding doors' area is surrounded by thin metal trim.  The lowermost section of trim has a couple of dings and is loose.  It sits correctly where it should be, but if it's bumped it's obviously loose. The lower right edge looks like it's rubbed onto white wall paint.  This section is about 4" high and looks to me like paint on top of the finish, not a section that's rubbed through the finish. TurntableThe turntable is a Rex Perpetuum-Ebner.  It is missing the center spindle.  It doesn't look like it has provisions to have had a changer.  It comes on when the arm is moved toward the spindle and turns off when returned to its resting position.  It has a control lever for playing 45, 78, 33, and 16 RPM records.  I did not test the auto-start switch. Blaupunkt Sultan type 2420 tube radioThe radio face is beautiful in black with gold lettering.  Ivory colored plastic pushbuttons help to really set off the radio in the light/blonde wood surround.  There are two flaws I'm aware of on the face.  The "FM" selector button has a small broken off piece which is visible, although it does not affect its functionality.  There's also a small clear window beside the leftmost round knob (volume control) that shows evidence of having had a burned out bulb (smoky looking stuff on the inside).  I only tested the radio in FM and it works fine and sounds fine.  There are tone control wheels for bass and high (treble).  There are selection buttons for OFF, PU (phono), FA, SB (AM), SW (shortwave), and FM.  There are also a set of buttons for selecting Hi-Fi, Solo, and Sonor.  When turned on in the dark the face is dimly backlit, I would believe that it should be brighter and assume there is a burned out bulb.  The original electric cord has one of the wall prongs loose.  It will plug into a wall socket fine but care has to be taken when pulling it back out.  I'm told that a drop of superglue will fix this. This is available for local pickup only (I can assist with pickup and certain local delivery).  Feel free to contact me for a preview and test run (I live just off Tyrone Blvd in St Petersburg).  The winning bidder will have paid me with cleared funds prior to showing up for pickup.  This is being sold as-is, it may or may not need work to be fully functional.  I have not tried to fix anything or hide any flaws ... on an item like this I prefer to let the ultimate owner decide how they'd like it restored or fixed.  I have done minimal testing of this item and am not trying to pass it off as anything more than a beautiful vintage item.
