Description
INTELLECTUS... Beautiful and heavy solid brass bookends depicting "The Doors To The Library Of Congress" by Virginia Metalcrafters, copyright 1984. The Library's Jefferson Building faces the Capitol of the United States on the First Street side. The Main Entrance to the building's first floor consists of three double, bronze entrance doors, weighing a total of 3 tons, depict Tradition, Writing and Printing (shown in the image on the right). They represent how history, religion, literature and science have been preserved and disseminated by man. The doors were modeled by Frederick MacMonnies, Olin L. Warner and Herbert Adams and are now opened only for special occasions. These measure approximately 7-5/8" tall, 3-7/8" wide and 3-1/8" deep. Beautiful detail in high relief. The back and the heavy wedge base have a polished, mirror finish with very minimal, very light scuffs and the design is on a textured background which really shows off the detail. Lovely pair in overall excellent condition! See pictures and please email if you have any questions. Low opening bid and no reserve. Thank you for looking and good luck! Check out my other items!
