It is used to protect surfaces from the dampness of a chilled bottle. It is 7 3/8 inches across the top. It has a cork inset (t is not shown in the pics) to help hold the chill and protect the glass bottle.  This wine holder has green felt on the base to protect the the tabletop. It has a raised grape and leaves pattern on one side with vines trailing to either side. The piece is rich looking, and would hold a wine or other beverage bottle up to about 4 1/2 inches in diameter. This piece would compliment any table service, from casual to fine dining.
