Description
Western Electric   Model 653 Hotel Phone   Up for auction is this original 1936 Western Electric model 653A wall phone. This particular model is also referred to as the hotel phone because it was commonly used inside old hotel rooms. This is a working antique telephone, not a replica. This telephone was completely disassembled and meticulously cleaned and inspected. All of the components are dated 1936 with the exception of the HA1 receiver unit, and the porcelain dial face. The 706A bakelite receiver is in excellent condition with no cracks, and very little wear. It was cleaned and buffed to it's original shine. The brown cloth cord is original and in excellent shape, with no fraying, or damage of any kind. This phone also has the "bulldog" transmitter which uses the F1 transmitter unit which is dated 1936. The transmission quality of this phone is excellent.  This phone features a much desired 4H dial dated I-36. It was completely disassembled and ultrsonically cleaned then lightly point oiled. It makes that distinctive old-timey clicking sound when you're dialing. The 1939 rural numbers only porcelain dial face is in excellent shape, with no fading or scratches. The fingerwheel was professionally powder coated to resist wear. The chassis and housing were professionally coated with a high quality automotive lacquer. I have mounted this phone on a wooden backboard for display purposes. It can also be used to hang the phone if you so desire, or you can remove it and hang the phone directly to the wall. I have also installed a new brown cloth covered line cord with a modular plug end, so it's ready for you to plug in and enjoy. I'm a retired telephone repairman, and I have over thirty-four years of experience working on telephones. I spend many hours on each one to insure that you're getting the quality that you expect. Take your time looking at the following photo's and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. $400.00 reserve.
